In 1960, the quintet of saxophonist Gianni Basso and trumpeter Oscar Valdambrini, among the longest-running and most prolific ensembles in Italian jazz history, was joined by trombonist Dino Piana, newly appointed “revelation” of the year in the “The Jazz Cup,” the first music program dedicated to jazz broadcast by Rai Radio2 (at the time Second Program)
