Album entitled What’s Happening? by double bassist Giorgio Azzolini. The record was recorded between March 29 and April 12, 1966, at Fonorama Studio in Milan.

Giorgio Azzolini: double bass/Franco D’Andrea: piano/Franco Tonani: drums

The trio of Giorgio Azzolini, a double bass player who had served in the lineup of Oscar Valdambrini and Gianni Basso, performed at Intra’s Club in Milan, participated in the 11th Sanremo Festival in March 1966, accompanying American saxophonist Booker Ervin for the occasion, and at the Lugano Festival in 1967

Note: The album liner notes are edited by, among others, music journalist Joachim-Ernst Berendt, author of the monumental Das Jazzbuch – The Book of Jazz. The German journalist describes Giorgio Azzolini’s trio record as “one of the most exciting recordings” of that year, and then allows himself to reflect-“Itwill always remain a mystery to me that brilliant Italian jazz musicians do not find greater recognition.”
