A graduate of the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, Danilo Rea formed the Rome Trio together with Roberto Gatto and Enzo Pietropaoli in 1975.

In the 1980s Danilo Rea took part in Maurizio Giammarco’s Lingomania project, and then collaborated with double bassist Giovanni Tommaso on record productions such as 1986’s Via G.T with the quintet formed by Paolo Fresu, Massimo Urbani and Roberto Gatto

His great capacity for improvisation, melodic research and transversal taste for changing and stimulating musical worlds also led him to collaborate with great interpreters of Italian pop music such as Mina, Gino Paoli, Pino Daniele and Claudio Baglioni

He founded Doctor 3 together with double bassist Enzo Pietropaoli and drummer Fabrizio Sferra in 1997. The trio stands out for original and never trite readings of celebrated songs from the rock, pop and folk scene. Doctor 3 receives critical acclaim from industry critics and a large audience following

In solo piano, Danilo Rea records the albums Lirico, for the Egea label, and Lost in Europe, for the Via Veneto label
