The course AI and music: creativity and innovation – advanced level, by Fabio Balestrieri, is the natural continuation of the entry level module, designed for those who have already acquired the basics of using a DAW and want to consolidate skills, method and autonomy in music production, with conscious use of new technologies. AI can be used as a creative assistant, a tool for technical acceleration and as a decision support, without replacing the musician’s artistic taste and interpretation.

Course content and structure

The course delves into the conscious use of the DAW as a creative and operational environment, working on MIDI programming, insertion and recording of real instruments, editing and automations to give shape and dynamics to the song. At the same time, the use ofartificial intelligence is introducedas an aid to composition, using dedicated tools to generate lyrics, melodies and arrangements, overcome creative blocks and develop alternative ideas quickly and consciously.

We then work on melodic writing, learning to translate emotion and intention into expressive vocal or instrumental lines, with attention to phrasing, dynamics, and timbre. The course continues with the fundamentals of mixing and mastering, addressing balancing, equalization, compression and preparing the track for distribution. Finally, stemmization and analysis is introduced, which is useful for studying existing productions, extracting parts for reuse, or better understanding arrangements and structures.

Pre-requisites for entering the course: knowledge of major scale harmonization and rhythmic figures; knowledge of daw.

Upon completion of the course “AI and music: creativity and innovation – advanced level” you will be able to:

  • Stemming and transcribing from complete mixes, deriving instrumental parts, harmonic and rhythmic analysis useful for study, rearrangement, and focused practice

  • Co-produce with AI: generate multi-style lyrics, create melodies from lyrics, design complete arrangements and complex vocal harmonizations while maintaining creative control

  • Adapt and refine melodies on existing arrangements, converting MIDI→voice to different timbres/languages and curating embellishments, dynamics and expressiveness with advanced MIDI editor

  • Optimizing composition and workflow with AI tools: overcoming blockages, exploring melodic-harmonic variations, aligning text-melody, and structuring the song coherently

  • Finalize mix and mastering with AI assistance, acting on balancing, EQ, compression, spatialization, and quality control, up to the production of the file ready for distribution
