BACHELOR OF MUSIC

Three-year Bachelor diploma program in Applied Music. Educational course close to a changing job market to provide artistic and compositional support to various entertainment industries: Film, Television, Gaming, Drama, Musical, Communication.

In addition to the classical subjects of music composition, technological skills are added, enabling the student to be able to become familiar and proficient with music informatics, sound design, electronic music, and virtual phonics.

Technology has a fundamental role in applied music as the composer must have extensive competence in composing and orchestrating virtually, also in processing a sound through a synthesis and / or sampling technique, in processing and assembling all the sound information in a mix. multichannel or 3D.

To the classic subjects of musical compositional orientation, technological subjects are therefore added to allow the student to be able to gain confidence and competence with musical computer science, sound design, electronic music, virtual fonia.

  • Music composition techniques of electroacoustic nature, with historical overview of various editing techniques and “tape music” and electronic music.
  • Study of piano as an instrument for composition
  • Realization of applied music in partnership with Italian and European institutions for gaming, film, TV, multimedia production.

At the end of the three-year First Cycle academic diploma, the student can continue his / her specialization studies in a two-year Second cycle academic studies (aut. Mur) in: Applied music, Composition and Film Scoring, Music Production

INSIGHTS

Jazz professional ensembles represent an innovation introduced in Italy for the first time right at Saint Louis, with renowned teachers who not only direct the ensemble but are part of it as soloists and instrumentalists. They represent an opportunity for extraordinary growth as students can play and confront an established artist, experience the construction of a real repertoire and perform alongside him/her in Italian Clubs and Festivals. They therefore represent a ticket to enter the world of work and an experience in the student’s artistic curriculum.

The student chooses his/her own ensemble teacher, it is also possible to participate in the ensemble with the already formed student’s band, so as to grow together.

Every year 30 different professional labs are formed, here are some of them:

  • Jazz 4et, 5et, 6et with Rosario Giuliani: Bop and hard-bop formations with the most representative Italian soloist.
  • Jazz Quartet with Ramberto Ciammarughi: Groups of experimentation and jazz in-depth approach with the great Maestro Ramberto Ciammarughi.
  • Jazz 8et with Maurizio Giammarco: JJazz, fusion, be-bop and beyond with the extraordinary Maurizio Giammarco, active on the Italian and international scene for over 40 years.
  • Jazz tango with Javier Girotto: Mixed formation of 5-8 elements to discover the original repertoire of Javier Girotto and Astor Piazzolla.
  • Jazz fusion with Umberto Fiorentino: The most contemporary Jazz with an undisputed protagonist of Jazz.
  • Jazz Trio with Fabrizio Sferra: Trio ensemble with the most prolific drummer for Italian Jazz, Fabrizio Sferra.

Mandatory attendance to the minimum extent of the 80% of the lessons.

  • FULL-TIME ATTENDANCE: Classes are mostly held with fortnightly cadence, organized in alternate weeks, with the exception of the instrument / singing lesson which can be organized at the student’s choice on a weekly or fortnightly basis. About 300 hours of classes per year.
  • PART-TIME ATTENDANCE: Students who, for work or distance reasons, are unable to attend all the lessons provided for in the study plan can personalize their own study plan choosing how many subjects to attend from year to year. Part-time attendance implies a probable extension of the course of study beyond 3 years.

  • Sax Ensemble with Rosario Giuliani: 5 saxophones and rhythm section for the ensemble directed by Rosario Giuliani. The ensemble will focus on a repertoire dedicated to the genius of Charlie Parker, proposing his solos, extracted from the standards that were permanently part of his live shows, and arranged with 5 voices, along with some original songs by Rosario Giuliani himself.
  • Saint Louis Combo & Big Band, conducted by M° Antonio Solimene: A great orchestral experience that leads musicians to play professionally in important locations and festivals throughout Italy, accompanying internationally renowned artists on stage.
  • Storytellers Diary by Giovanni Candia: Ensemble that provides a synthesis between electronic music and contemporary jazz, through the dialogue between electronic sound and the development of extemporization and improvisation typical of jazz.
  • Latin Louis Combo conducted by Natalio Mangalavite: 16-element ensemble, together to perform the jazz repertoire with South American and Caribbean rhythms.
