CLASSIC GUITAR
PREPARATORY COURSE
Pathway aimed at admission to the first level academic course in Classical Guitar.
The course is aimed at access to first-level academic courses in classical guitar through in-depth study of classical and contemporary repertoire and guitar technique, chamber and ensemble music, classical and modern harmony, and music production.
The repertoire ranges from the origins of Classical Music through all the historical periods in which it has evolved to contemporary times.

The pre-academic course lasts from 1 to 2 years, depending on the student’s entry level and study ability.
Skills are acquired in the following areas:
- Classical guitar:Weekly one-on-one classical guitar lessons, where the repertoire ranges from Renaissance to Baroque music to contemporary times.
- Classic Guitar Lab: Formations from trio to quintet led by professional teachers to practice classical and modern repertoire in the studio and live.
- Harmony: Contemporary classical harmony from traditional basics to modern 5-voice spread voicings, with tensions and alterations, drops, altered scales, modal exchanges, and melody harmonization techniques.
- Ear training: will lead each student to transcribe melodies, chord progressions and rhythmic patterns taken from classical repertoires, to the point of developing the ability to transcribe without the aid of instruments.
- Music Technology: You gain full mastery in the professional use of state-of-the-art music production software in the recording industry.
Upon successful completion of the last pre-academic level one enters the three-year Level I academic diploma program (auth. Ministry of Education, University and Research)
The first cycle academic courses prepare for the professions of:
- Classical guitarist and band leader of original projects
- Classical guitarist for live performance and recording session
- Arranger for small, medium and large ensembles
- Music producer
Preparatory pathways do not start from scratch; they presuppose at least two to three years of prior practice on the instrument, to be verified by audition, through which one enters the first year or directly into the second pre-academic year.
For each subject, one will be placed at the appropriate level based on the admission tests: by way of example only, a student may be admitted to the 2nd level of classical guitar, the 1st level of harmony, and the 2nd level of ear training, based on their knowledge. Each subject will therefore follow its own path according to the level attained.
Admission tests are usually held in June and, for places remaining available, in September. International students can sit the admission tests online from February of the previous year until June the latest.
