The Dolby Atmos course, by Alberto Rossetto, co-founder and CEO of Milk Audio Store and Milk Studios, aims to progressively build theoretical and practical skills up to operational autonomy in a Pro Tools session for mixing in Dolby Atmos. A course designed for producers, sound engineers and musicians who wish to understand and consciously use music production techniques in Dolby Atmos-now increasingly in demand in the recording industry and major streaming platforms-developing technological skills, critical listening and studio operational practice to fully enter the world of immersive audio.

Course content and structure

The program alternates theoretical moments, which are necessary to navigate formats, standards and distribution chains, with practical sessions held in the Dolby Atmos Mix Room, where people work directly on real projects. We start with the evolution of formats and basic concepts of object-oriented audio, moving through system configuration and setup on Pro Tools, to the construction of three-dimensional soundscapes, creative management of automations and panning, and finally dedicated mixing and mastering techniques.

The goal is to provide comprehensive operational expertise that can transform a stereo production into an immersive mix ready for distribution, with attention to aesthetic choices, perceptual performance, and compatibility on different listening systems.

Upon completion of the Dolby Atmos course you will be able to:

  • Understand the principles ofspatial audio and the differences between formats and rendering logics (stereo, binaural, surround, Dolby Atmos)

  • Set up and optimize a studio for immersive mixing, taking care of layout, routing, and calibration

  • using Pro Tools in the Atmos environment, creating Beds and Objects and handling 3D panning

  • Transforming a stereo project into an immersive mix by applying sound design, automation, and consistent mix choices

  • Perform mastering and exporting to Dolby specifications, preparing files for streaming and distribution

Schedule of lectures

From Feb. 20, 2026, 10 meetings of 3 hours each, Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekly

Mode: in-person, Saint Louis headquarters in Rome and Dolby Atmos Mix Room (via Francesco Sabatini, 10 – 00135 Rome)

Total amount of hours: 30 hours

Participation fee: € 800 (subsidized fees for Saint Louis Alumni and Alumni, info in teaching office).

Alberto Rossetto

Mixing Engineer, Alberto Rossetto is CEO and Co-Founder of Milk – Minds In a Lovely Karma, responsible for the Milk Audio Store division, where he is in charge of coordinating the sales and marketing departments. He began his career as a sound engineer at the age of 20, specializing in Recording and Mixing record and Soundtracks, working alongside Italian and international artists and producers such as Loredana Bertè, Elisa, Ennio Morricone, Morrissey, Tony Visconti, Mike Edges and many others. In 2016 he took over as director of the Rome office of Funky Junk Italy, a European group specializing in Professional Audio. In 2023 with Milk Audio Store, in collaboration with PMC Speakers and Dolby, begins a project to develop and introduce Dolby Atmos Music in Italy.
