FOUNDATION COURSE

Intensive preparation course in Vocals for admission to first level academic courses.

Individual lessons in vocal technique and study of pop-rock repertoire, ensemble music workshops from trio to medium-sized ensembles with performances in clubs in the Capital, Gospel and Pop Choir, Pop-rock Harmony and Ear training, Modern Piano, Music Technology for pre-production of own original projects.

The pre-academic course has a duration ranging from 1 to 3 years, depending on the student’s entry level and study ability.

Skills are acquired in the following areas:

  • Dual weekly lessons: one devoted to pop-rock singing technique and one to repertoire ranging from pop to rock to blues to nu-soul.
  • Formations from trio to quintet led by professional musicians to practice Italian and international pop-rock repertoire in the hall and live.
  • Pop-rock harmony from tradition to fusions with jazz harmony, ethnic music, nu-soul.
  • A Choir of the student’s choice from Pop, Gospel, Brazilian and Multistyle Choirs.
  • Piano study, from technical basics to practical application of harmony, reading chord signatures and melodies of medium difficulty.
  • Approach to music technology, sequencing software, miking, sound synthesis.

Once the foundation course/pre-academic course has been successfully completed you automatically access the three-year first cycle of academic courses of Popular music (aut. Ministry of Education, University and Research)

Job opportunities that the three-year first cycle academic courses of Popular Music opens:

  • artist and band leader of original projects
  • singer and chorister for live performance and recording session
  • arranger for small and medium ensembles
  • music producer
  • music author for sonorizations and music applied to images

The pre-academic paths do not start from scratch, they presuppose a previous practice on the instrument / singing of at least two-three years.

You can enter the first year or directly into the second or third pre-academic year. For each subject you will be placed at the appropriate level based on the admission tests: for example, you can be admitted to the 3rd level of vocals, the second level of harmony and the first level of ear training, based on your knowledge. Admission tests are held in June and, for the remaining available places, in September:

  1. Singing test, performance of one or more songs/exercises of the student’s choice, in-depth study required by the committee (go to “Admission Info and Study Plan” click on “Download Study Plan”)
  2. Harmony knowledge test see mock test for access to the 2nd and 3rd level
  3. Ear training test see mock test for access to the 2nd and 3rd level
  4. Aptitude test and motivational interview

The pre-academic course offers a choice of four different attendance modes:

  • Ordinary Attendance: Weekly attendance, with classes ranging from 6 to 10 hours, concentrated over 2-4 days each week. This mode allows for guided learning at every step, with continuous monitoring of progress. An average study commitment of 6 hours daily is required. Certain subjects offer both in-person and fully online attendance options.
  • Long-distance Attendance: The pre-academic long-distance course entails 6 to 8 hours of classes concentrated on Saturdays, alternating between in-person and online sessions each week. Ideal for students residing outside of Rome or those with busy schedules, including working professionals. The long-distance mode with Saturday classes is exclusive to the pre-academic course.
  • Teen Music Academy Attendance: Tailored for high school students, this personalized course engages students for 1 or 2 afternoons per week, with the aim of preparing them for academic courses upon high school graduation. Exceptionally talented students may be admitted to academic courses even before graduation. Some subjects offer both in-person and fully online attendance options.
  • DAD Attendance: Fully remote education option, suitable for students worldwide.

  • Full-time attendance: Classes are mostly scheduled on a weekly basis, for a total of 350hours per year
  • Online attendance: Classes are held online; a weekly lesson in presence is scheduled in February, as the exams in June.
