FOUNDATION COURSE

One-year full immersion course aimed at admission to Level I academic courses in Electronic Music and Sound Technician.

Professional figures of reference are among the most requested on the job market, from recording studios to radio-television studios, from video and documentary production companies to new technologies in the multimedia world.

*The phonics and electronic music course also includes online attendance mode; however, there is one week of in-person practice in February and on-site exams in June.

In-depth study of acoustic physics, elements of fonia and signal path, microphones and miking techniques, analog and digital recording, use of outboard, electronic music and Live electronics, elements of harmony and creative writing with musical software, piano studies to use it as a working tool.

There is no entrance exam, the duration is one year, after which access is gained through exams to specific academic courses in electronic music and sound technician.

Skills are acquired in the following areas:

  • Midi: digital audio and sampling, noise generated audio modulations, Midi protocol, use of sequencing software, virtual Instruments, modular and compact synthesizers.
  • Phonics: Using and setting up mixer banks, pre-amplification, equalization, patch-bay, signal and spectrum processors, inserts, compressor, expander-gate, reverbs, delay and modulation processors.
  • Piano theory and practice: the basics of music theory and harmony, study of the piano as a tool for computer work.
  • Live electronics: approach to using electroacoustic music creation software such as Ableton, Reactor, Cycling 74 Max/Msp, Max for live.
  • Technical English aimed at music technology.

At the end of the pre-academic course, it is possible to consciously choose the path of first-level academic study from:

  • three-year academic diploma program in Electronic Music
  • three-year Level I academic degree in Sound Technician

Admission tests are not required for admittance to the pre-academic course. The students can access without specific preparation.

The pre-academic course, however, is limited in number, for a maximum of 96 students; registration opens in May until all available places are filled.

The pre-academic course offers a choice of four different attendance modes:

  • Ordinary Attendance: Weekly attendance, with classes ranging from 6 to 10 hours, concentrated over 2-4 days each week. This mode allows for guided learning at every step, with continuous monitoring of progress. An average study commitment of 6 hours daily is required. Certain subjects offer both in-person and fully online attendance options.
  • Long-distance Attendance: The pre-academic long-distance course entails 6 to 8 hours of classes concentrated on Saturdays, alternating between in-person and online sessions each week. Ideal for students residing outside of Rome or those with busy schedules, including working professionals. The long-distance mode with Saturday classes is exclusive to the pre-academic course.
  • Teen Music Academy Attendance: Tailored for high school students, this personalized course engages students for 1 or 2 afternoons per week, with the aim of preparing them for academic courses upon high school graduation. Exceptionally talented students may be admitted to academic courses even before graduation. Some subjects offer both in-person and fully online attendance options.
  • DAD Attendance: Fully remote education option, suitable for students worldwide.

INSIGHTS

  • Full-time attendance: Classes are mostly scheduled on a weekly basis, for a total of 350hours per year
  • Online attendance: Classes are held online; a weekly lesson in presence is scheduled in February, as the exams in June.
