Master Diploma

Two-year Master specialization in Live electronics. Development of one’s compositional matrix and artistic identity as an electroacoustic musician.

The entire specialization curriculum is tailored to the artistic inclinations of the trainees, aimed at creating real job opportunities with installations, live electronics performances and live performances at festivals and theaters.

It is a limited students number course, aimed at up to 20 students, coming from academic courses or selected by audition.

You will gain extensive skills in composing and orchestrating with the latest software and libraries, processing a sound through a synthesis and/or sampling technique. Development of processing applications for real time dedicated to interacting with the voice or one or more acoustic instruments, analysis of scores, flow charts for Live electronics. Implementation, changes, variations, and practice with Max8 and Kyma.

  • Electroacoustic composition: Theory and Practice of Electronic Music in Object Graphics Environments Max, Kyma, Pure Data, Spectrum Modeling, Time Shifts and Delay Lines, Fourier Analysis and Resynthesis, Wrapper MC., Spectral Processing Lab, the use of Jitter for Spectrum Creation and Transformation, Spectral Blur, Kyma Digital Sound Workstation, Generation Sources, Modifiers, and Recombiners.
  • Improvisation and interactive composition: Practice in music labs aimed at the development of the improvisation and composition in real time, using multiple strategies, from interactive assisted composition, to ecosystem procedures and immersive listening
  • Live Electronics: evelopment of processing applications for real time dedicated to the interaction with the voice or one or more acoustic instruments, Implementation, modifications, variations and practice with Max8 and Kyma, software engineering, implementation and porting with Max and Pure Data, Ecosystem composition and machine learning.
  • Programming languages: Programming in non-graphic object development environments such as SuperCollider, Processing, Arduino, JavaScript.
  • Interactive systems and artistic installations: From the prepared instrument to the augmented instrument, The Devices of Ciat-Lonbarde, Sidrax, Tetrax, Cocoquantus, Arius Blaze and the Illuminist Garden, Ideation and design of sound objects, Interaction and digital augmentation, Invention violin making and automatic orchestras, Kinetic sculptures and sound art, multimedia performance.

At the end of the 2nd Cycle academic two-year period, the student can complete his/her specialization studies with a specialization Master program (acknowledged by the Ministry of Education).

ACCORDION JAZZ

INSIGHTS

Master academic courses includes two types of ensembles every year, a permanent ensemble that rehearses all year round and holds concerts in clubs in Rome with the teacher as part of the band and a great line-up that concentrates rehearsals in one or two full-immersion weeks for concerts in Theaters and recording productions with international guests.

  • Special Guest Jazz Ensemble: Rehearsals concentrated in 3-4 consecutive days and subsequent concert with international artists. In recent years, the two-year postgraduate students have performed alongside Aaron Parks, Gegè Telesforo, Greg Hutchinson, Tollak, Roberto Gatto, Rosario Giuliani, Peppe Servillo, Vince Mendoza, Paolo Fresu, Javier Girotto, Frabizio Bosso, Gianluca Petrella.
  • Professional Jazz Ensemble: High profile ensemble, highly demanding repertoires, interplay and improvisation, fortnightly meetings with Rosario Giuliani, Ramberto Ciammarughi, Gegè Telesforo, Javier Girotto, Dario Deidda, Fabrizio Sferra, Paolo Damiani, Amedeo Tommasi, Maurizio Giammarco, Vincenzo Presta, Natalio Mangalavite, Roberto Tarenzi.

REQUIREMENTS: Three-year undergraduate academic degree already completed or to be completed by the February session (conditional registration).

  1. See the Study Plan and Admission Tests: Check that your preparation is in line with the skills required for the individual tests by clicking on Download Study Plan.
  2. Realize the video clips for the pre-selection: Record one or more videos containing 3 songs, performed by you in a group (minimum trio) that are representative of your artistic activity. The files must be uploaded to YouTube or other similar web portals and indicated as a link on the application form.
  3. Fill out the application and send links to the video clips: You can apply for the entrance exam for Level I and II academic courses from Feb. 3 to April 30 (by clicking on the “enroll” button in the upper right corner). Applications submitted subsequently may be considered only on the basis of the places remaining available.
  4. Wait for pre-selection results: Candidates who pass the pre-selection will be admitted to the admission tests, which will take place in June and September. International candidates can sit the admission tests earlier, from March until June.
  5. Sit the admission tests: Admission tests are held in two consecutive days.

Mandatory attendance to the minimum extent of the 80% of the lessons.

  • FULL-TIME ATTENDANCE: Classes are mostly held with fortnightly cadence, organized in alternate weeks, with the exception of the instrument / singing lesson which can be organized at the student’s choice on a weekly or fortnightly basis. About 300 hours of classes per year.
  • PART-TIME ATTENDANCE: Students who, for work or distance reasons, are unable to attend all the lessons provided for in the study plan can personalize their own study plan choosing how many subjects to attend from year to year. Part-time attendance implies a probable extension of the course of study beyond 3 years.

Dal 2012 il Saint Louis partecipa al programma Erasmus+ che offre la possibilità ad ogni studente di livello Accademico di realizzare dei periodi di mobilità in altri Istituti di Alta Formazione Musicale Europei ed Extra-Europei per progetti di studio o di tirocinio.

Ogni studente potrà dunque usufruire di un massimo di 12 mesi di studio o tirocinio all’Estero per ogni ciclo di studio (12 mesi max nel triennio, 12 mesi max nel biennio), scegliendo la propria meta tra una ampia ed eccellente offerta di Partner esteri che il Saint Louis ha istituito e consolidato nel tempo.

ACCORDION POP

INSIGHTS

Great orchestral formations with the best talented students cwho perform in theaters and festivals with internationally renowned artists. In recent years Special Guests such as Beppe Vessicchio, Paolo Fresu, Fabrizio Bosso, Antonella Ruggiero (Matia Bazar), Diodato, Tullio De Piscopo, Chiara Civello had participated.

  • Pop Orchestra conducted by Vincenzo Presta: Formation of over 20 elements, rhythmic section, brass section, strings, voices to host the greats of Italian and international Pop.
  • Soul Train Revolution: Inspired by the homonymous famous American music tv show, Soul Train R-Evolution is a line-up of 20 musicians whose repertoire focuses on ‘Black Music’ in its widest sense, coexisting the tradition of Soul, Funk, Jazz and African music, with elements of Neo-Soul, Gospel, Hip-Hop, Fusion and electronic music.
  • I Love Pizza by Serena Brancale: An ensemble that is not based on vocal power or technical and instrumental virtuosity, but on the inventiveness of musicians in creating innovative sounds out of the ordinary thanks to Loop stations, keyboards, Pads, effects and laptops for rhythmic and vocoder for singers.
  • Latin Louis Combo conducted by Natalio Mangalavite: 16-element ensemble, together to perform the jazz repertoire with South American and Caribbean rhythms.
  • Synth Louis: Experimental ensemble that was born as a tribute to electronic music, synthesizers and more generally electronic musical instruments in all their forms, open to instruments, singers, drummers, electronic musicians.
  • Progressive Rock by Daniele Pomo: The history of 1970s Progressive Rock, British and Italian and contemporary Progressive: from Genesis to PFM to the last frontiers of Rock and beyond.
  • Twenty Guitars by Diego Cignitti: Ensemble composed exclusively of electric guitars that rereads the repertoire of the great history of Italian and international Rock. 20 guitars that play, explode, harmonize and dialogue. A wall of sound completely new.
