Customized course with individual percussion lessons
The custom course includes individual lessons with a percussion teacher of the student’s choice, to offer truly personalized teaching. The course of instruction is built around each student’s needs and goals, starting from postural approach and touch management to the development of rhythmic sensitivity, groove and phrasing.
The study addresses the fundamentals of Afro-Cuban and Latin percussion through congas-withstudy of traditional rhythmic patterns such as tumbao, marcha and guaguancó-the sound principles and performance techniques of thehandpan, an instrument with melodic-rhythmic characteristics, with attention to scales, cyclic patterns and the meditative dimension of sound, as well as the use of small percussion instruments – cajón, bongos, shaker, pandeiro and related – in solo or accompanying keys, in the most diverse stylistic contexts: from jazz to world music, from pop to folk.
The course also offers a cross-curricular view of rhythmic language, exploring connections between different instruments and relevant musical genres, with a focus on listening, improvisation and ensemble interaction skills.
Individual instrument lessons allow for the construction of a tailor-made course in line with the individual student’s training needs, learning pace and artistic aspirations.
In addition to the custom percussion course, the student may choose to combine participation in ensemble music workshops dedicated to custom courses or one of Saint Louis’ resident bands and orchestras, subject to passing an audition.

Frequency Lessons of 40 minutes weekly (recommended duration from ages 6 to 9); 50 minutes weekly or 60 minutes fortnightly (ages 10 and up).
