The short course“Techno 360: Production Fundamentals and Live Set Engineering,” by Federica Ferracuti aka HU, is designed for those who want to master the entire creative cycle of techno music: from the foundations of studio production to strategic live set design. A practical and methodological path to take one’s music from the DAW to the live dimension with awareness, control and artistic vision.

Course content and structure

The masterclass addresses techno as an integrated system, where production and performance are not separate stages but aspects of the same creative process. The goal is to develop a working method that works both in the studio and on stage.

The course starts with ananalysis of the structure of the techno track: how to build an arrangement that holds together tension, dynamics and evolution over time. Work is done on the internal logic of the piece-the input and output of elements, the management of energy, the construction of the climax-with an eye already on the live performance.

A core module is devoted to sound design: designing sound from the source, synthesis, timbral manipulation, and building a recognizable sound palette consistent with one’s artistic language. DAW workflow is explored in depth: how to organize the project so that the transition from the composition stage to export for live performance is efficient, avoiding redundancies and optimizing each step in the process.

The second part of the course focuses on live set design: modular architecture, layer management, synchronization between pre-recorded elements, and real-time performance. It explores how to structure a set that is dynamic, adaptable to the context and able to respond to stage variables. Finally, control of live performance is addressed: management of hardware and software in situation, logic of transitions between sections, stage presence, and the ability to intervene expressively even under pressure.

Upon completion of the course “Techno 360: Production Fundamentals and Live Set Engineering” you will be able to:

  • Analyze and construct the structure of a techno track with a functional arrangement logic for performance
  • Develop personal sound design, from synthesis to timbral manipulation, with its own sound identity
  • Organize a workflow in DAW that is efficient, live-oriented, and free of redundancies
  • Design a modular live set that can adapt to the context and maintain consistency and tension throughout the performance
  • Managing hardware and software in live situation, with control, responsiveness and artistic vision
  • Taking your music from DAW to stage with a structured and professional method
