Francesca Badalini is a pianist, composer, and teacher. With a degree in Piano, Composition, and Classical Literature, she has furthered her training in composition for film and theater through numerous specialized courses, including masterclasses with Nicola Piovani at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, while simultaneously deepening her knowledge of improvisation techniques.

In addition to her artistic work, she is actively involved in teaching piano, composition, and improvisation. From 2022 to 2026, she taught Theory, Analysis, and Composition; Piano; and Dance Accompaniment Techniques at the Liceo Coreutico Zucchi in Monza. Since 2023, she has been teaching at the Claudio Abbado Civic School of Music in Milan, where she teaches a course on improvisation and composition techniques for silent films, in addition to leading workshops on composition for visual media and improvisation, as well as giving lectures on music.

Her professional work is strongly focused on composing for film, theater, and the performing arts. She composes original music for theater productions, films, musicals, audiobooks, and silent film restorations, developing a musical language that combines composition, improvisation, and live performance.

Since 1999, she has been collaborating with the Cineteca Italiana as a composer and pianist, creating and performing live soundtracks for silent films at festivals and cultural institutions in Italy, France, Switzerland, and Tunisia. Among the main venues are the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Locarno Film Festival, the Festival du Cinéma Italien in Annecy, Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna, Le Giornate del Cinema Muto in Pordenone, and Cinéma au Musée in Susa.

Since 2009, she has composed the soundtracks for seven animated films by Simone Massi and three works by Julia Gromskaya, productions that have won awards at major international film festivals, earning a total of five awards for best music.

In 2010, she released her first album, *Musiche in bianco e nero*, and that same year she received the Bianca d’Aponte Award for Best Film Score Composer. In 2012, she composed the music for the opening credits of the Venice International Film Festival, directed by Simone Massi.

From 2014 to 2023, she hosted the program *Labirinti musicali* on Radio Popolare. In 2017, she released the album *Shared Souls* (Da Vinci Edition), and in 2018, she performed classical music for Silvio Soldini’s documentary *Treno di parole *.

In 2022 and 2023, she performed as a pianist and celesta player in film concerts and productions that blend classical and rock music with the Milan Symphony Orchestra and the I Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra.

Since 2021, she has been the founder of the ensemble I Sincopatici, with which she has developed a project dedicated to contemporary film concerts, in which rock, classical music, live electronics, composition, and improvisation come together in the live musical accompaniment of silent film masterpieces, including *Metropolis*, *Nosferatu*, and *The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari*. This project also gave rise to the albums *Decimo Cerchio – L’Inferno 1911* (2024) and *La Corazzata Potëmkin* (2025).
