It is becoming more and more difficult to have the opportunity to follow the masters in the field, and I think it is very important, now more than ever, to teach kids all the notions, even the most basic ones, to give them a more solid preparation as musicians and future professionals.” (M. Some topics that will be covered during the master class:

  • Headphone mix, what to ask the sound engineer for
  • Mix in monitors, what to ask the sound engineer
  • Knowing your instrument: Where does the sound come from? – The difference in sound between performing and listening –
  • Awareness of the sound one would like to achieve and its actual feasibility, considering context and musician’s skills
  • Know the frequencies that affect your own instrument and those of other musicians in the studio
  • Terminology for communicating properly in the recording studio
  • How to use the microphone to get the desired sound
  • What to bring to a recording session
  • What NOT to do in the studio (bring friends, chat in the director’s office, etc.).
  • Studio listening modes.

Participation is open to instrumentalists and singers.
Participation fee: €20 for Saint Louis students; €30 outside
