Italian Army Big Band

Big Band of the Italian Army Band in collaboration with Saint Louis College of Music in Rome.

On the occasion of the opening of Umbria Jazz 2024 on July 11 in Perugia, five Saint Louis students, talented young musicians from the Saint Louis Jazz Department, have been selected to join the Italian Army Big Band during the opening concert of the historic music festival.

BIG BAND of the Italian Army Band.

Formation of the Italian Army Band, was born from the common passion for Jazz of some of its members and especially from the desire to propose to the public the wonderful “Swing” orchestrations of the 1930s-40s.

The vast repertoire on the program ranges from the jazz classics of that period, passing through authors who have made the history of this genre such as D. Ellington, G. Miller, G. Gershwin, up to more modern transcriptions always re-proposed in a swing key thus retracing the whole historical and musical scenario of those years.

The Big Band has performed at several military and non-military occasions in the capital, as well as being a guest at various festivals and musical events at the Circolo Ufficiali in Venice, the Historical Museum of Pontecorvo (FR) as part of the “Music at the Museum” review, the Bracciano Castle for the Military Medical Convention, the Palazzo Ducale in Modena on the occasion of the Officers’ Cadets’ Debutante Ball, the ‘opening of the Jazz Festival in Stia (AR), the Theater of Citta di Castello (PG), the 2012 “Margutta” Award in Rome, the Cassia Theater in Rome, and in 2018 at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, enjoying great success with both audiences and critics. He has collaborated with internationally renowned artists including Mario Biondi and Fabrizio Bosso.
