Saint Louis hosts Jim Daus Hjernøe, visiting professorfrom Royal Academy of Music, Denmark, an Erasmus+ partner institute.

The workshop introduces Vocal Painting, one of the most significant developments in contemporary choral music. At the center of the course is the creative sign language developed by Jim Daus Hjernøe, a founding element of The Intelligent Choir (TIC) philosophy, in which shared musical responsibility and co-creation form the core of artistic expression.

Through hands-on exercises, participants will explore howimprovisation, groove, listening and collective initiative are integrated into musical moments generated in the present, in the context of the performance itself.

The workshop is open to those who are approaching the method for the first time and those who are already familiar with the ICT universe: in both cases, the course offers tools to expand one’s musical imagination and collective working skills.

Jim Daus Hjernøe is a full professor at the Royal Academy of Music, Denmark (DJM/RAMA) and founder of the internationally renowned RAMA Vocal Center. A leading figure in conducting jazz/pop choirs, he developed the Vocal Painting improvisation method (VOPA) and The Intelligent Choir (TIC) pedagogical model, both of which are widely used by educators and ensembles worldwide.

He directs the Master’s and Advanced Soloist programs in jazz/pop choral conducting and is actively engaged in developing innovative, practice-based approaches to choral leadership and music education.
