Two new audiovisual works by RUFA students Lorenzo Fabbri, Michele Pomponio, Marta Zorzan, and Lorenzo Tomassucci, in dialogue with the experimental ensembles from Saint Louis that blend electronic music, pop, and jazz. On Saturday, July 11, “Confluences”—the audiovisual project by RUFA and Saint Louis for Videocittà 2026—continues at the Gazometro in Rome with two new live performances.

A man is standing on top of a cliff. Below, the sea. The act of diving, in all its intensity, expands and repeats itself until it becomes almost unbearable. Then comes the splash of water that brings everything back to the surface. From that moment on, the scene is turned upside down: the LED wall becomes a tank in which the man is trapped, unable to escape, like a magic trick that went wrong. Film projections and fluid images surround him, engulf him, and make him lose the need to surface to breathe until, after putting off the moment of drowning for too long, he, too, must become a projection in order to continue existing.

The soundscape of the work is created by an ensemble consisting of Lorenzo Nicoletti on electronics, Giuseppe Forlenza on guitar, and Martha Deribe on vocals.

We are born from water twice: as a species, through millions of years of evolution, and as individuals, immersed in it during the first months of life. Even before it had a name, water was already our original state. “Sorgente” does not treat water as a mere element, but as a primordial language, composed of movements, oscillations, and cycles that have no visible boundary between end and beginning. A language that flows through bodies, changes form without losing itself, and traverses the states of matter just as it traverses time. The project stems from an attempt to rediscover that ancient, cyclical language through evolving images and live sounds, in a journey that moves from the intimate to the cosmological, from the drop to the origin, from the body to the universe.

Marta Zorzan is a multimedia artist and designer; her work stems from the intersection of philosophy and the humanities, and combines critical thinking with visual experimentation across various media. Lorenzo Tomassucci is a designer and multimedia artist whose work spans 3D animation, VFX, and real-time interactive installations, exploring the relationship between the body, space, and technology.

The live performance is accompanied by an ensemble featuring Martin Lucas de Carvalho on electronics, Edoardo Paggi on guitar, and Silvia Roberto on vocals.

Confluences, organized by RUFA and Saint Louis College of Music, is part of the Videocittà Watercult 2026 program, the Festival of Vision and Digital Culture, which returns to Rome’s Gazometro from July 10 to 12, 2026, dedicating its ninth edition to the theme of water.

Light installations, immersive, interactive, and virtual reality experiences, digital art, DJ sets, and live audiovisual performances will bring Europe’s largest urban industrial archaeology site to life.
