Between Music Campus

The Saint Louis College of Music and the Globart Cultural Association, in collaboration with the Region of Sicily, the Municipality of Piazza Armerina and One Sky Academy organize the Second Edition of the artistic residency Songwriting Camp, hosted within the Between Music Campus & Fest of Piazza Armerina in Sicily, July 22-26, 2024.

A creative and educational experience for songwriters, who will have the opportunity to work under the close mentorship of industry experts – songwriters, composers, performers, sound engineers and producers – to the creation of original songs to be performed during a live performance on the Piazza Armerina Festival stage.

The specific focus of this edition is the Mediterranean Music, in its broadest sense, beyond genre categories, leaving resident artists free to range from jazz to pop to electronic.

Also making valuable contributions to the Between Songwriting Camp will be the Italian Cultural Institutes foreign countries that will involve North African artists in the project, while the participation of Saint Louis College of Music students from all over the world will further enrich the international dimension of the campus. In this sense, the Between Songwriting Camp encourages the circulation and dissemination of musical ideas and ethnic influences that can provide fertile soil for creativity, experimentation, and innovation.

The art residency is divided into three phases:

  • an initial period of training and creative writing (July 22-25, 2024)
  • a subsequent phase of arrangement and performance staging (July 25-26, 2024)
  • Final concert on the Between Music Fest stage at Piazza Cattedrale in Piazza Armerina (July 26, 2024)

The project will involve 6 songwriters (authors and/or songwriters), assisted by singers, musicians (piano/keyboard, guitar, bass, drums) and producers.

The composition of 6 ensembles will be determined by pairing the leading songwriter/composer with musicians and producers who best reflect the author’s own requirements and compositional characteristics.

All Camp participants will have free access to the Between Music Fest Evening Concerts that will enliven the entire week, July 22-28.
Among the confirmed artists on the Billboard: Gaia, Nicola Piovani.
The best Campus participants, identified by the Festival’s Artistic Director, will also be able to perform as part of a special multidiscplinary performance scheduled for July 25.

Participation in the Songwriting Camp is free of charge, subject to availability. Travel, food and lodging costs (at contracted facilities made available by the organization) are the responsibility of the participants.

Participants-both songwriters and singers, musicians and producers-will be selected through this Call for Participation, according to the procedures outlined.

Application deadline: July 1, 2024
