EUROPEAN JAZZ’S COOL

EUROPEAN JAZZ’S COOL 2021 is a jazz art residency of international relevance: a full immersion for professional and artistic development aimed at getting participants into the national and international working, recording and concert circuit.

The first edition of Jazz’s Cool, which EJScool intends to expand and decline at the European level, dates back to 2005 and was held annually until 2012, held at the Saint Louis venues. The final concerts of the courses of the previous editions were held at prestigious festivals, such as Villa Celimontana and Villa Carpegna, and at the Auditorium Parco della Musica and Casa del Jazz, moments of performance with a strong response from the public, so much so that over the years the project has been subsidized by the Municipality of Rome as part of the Estate Romana; the success achieved over the years has made it possible to involve more and more important teachers worldwide.

The new project EUROPEAN JAZZ’S COOL 2021, brings together the best of all projects to date, building a path of innovative European artistic cohesion realized through music: a universal language capable of uniting people of all social, religious, ethnic and cultural groups.

The purpose of the artistic residency is to create new works and disseminate ideas in an original European jazz style that is constantly growing and developing. European Jazz’s Cool thus aims to represent a moment of collective European consciousness and knowledge, a project in search of shared identity and values.

An extraordinary new research experience dedicated to Jazz

With European jazz’s cool 2021, an extraordinary new research experience dedicated to jazz kicks off, ideally flowing along the path taken two years ago with the Song writing Camp, an immersive artistic residency for pop music artists.

You will meet the young participants in European Jazz’s Cool in the Saint Louis classrooms from Oct. 18 through the end of the month, each ensemble bringing to the stage at the House of Jazz the fruit of the work they did during their artistic residency at Saint Louis. Attending the concert is important to learn about and gain creative insights.

European jazz’s cool 2021 is a creative contemporary jazz residency, involving 14 international jazz musicians from Helsinki (Finland) Aalborg (Denmark) Krakow (Poland) Den Haag (Netherlands) Antwerp (Belgium) Budapest (Bulgaria), 9 Italian and international jazz musicians from three-year and two-year degrees from Saint Louis, 8 jazz musicians selected from conservatories throughout Italy, and 6 renowned Italian jazz musicians (Cristina Zavalloni, Ramberto Ciammarughi, Gabriele Mirabassi, Paolo Damiani, Rosario Giuliani, Alessandro Gwis )to chart the course, with no predefined destination.

Each of the foreign institutes independently selected their own participants. The Italian musicians were selected by Saint Louis through an open Call for Proposals on a National basis.
European Jazz’s Cool is supported by MiBAC under the three-year “Music Grant.”

As part of European Jazz’s Cool, new musical ensembles were formed, consisting of 2-3 young European talents, 2-3 young Italian talents and internationally renowned special guest artists who will guide the residents along a path of composing and producing original music with a European and transnational matrix.

A true social and artistic experiment, in which the teacher himself selected the members of his own ensemble, with which to create a new musical work, produced, recorded and promoted by the record label Alphamusic and the management agency Saint Louis Management srl, which will take care of the publication and subsequent writing of the musicians and concert promotion in the most important Italian and foreign jazz festivals.

The six new international ensembles, composed of talented young musicians from 6 different European countries and an established jazz star, represent a selection of European excellence.

Promenade-e-Quartet

The 6 new ensembles formed as part of European Jazz’s Cool will perform on prestigious international stages and festivals. Kicking off the live performance season are the first six concerts to be held at the House of Jazz between Oct. 22 and Oct. 31.
