EUROPEAN JAZZ’S COOL

EUROPEAN JAZZ’S COOL 2022 an innovative course of high musical training in jazz of European relevance; a full immersion for professional and artistic development in a broad international recording and concert context.

The review aims at the establishment of new musical groups, formed by young Italian and European talents and internationally renowned special guest artists, who will guide the young musicians along a path of composition and production of original music.

A true social and artistic experiment, in which the musician of choice will select members of his or her own ensemble, with whom to create a new musical work, produced by the Jazz Collection record label, and promoted by the Saint Louis management agency, which will oversee the digital publication and subsequent writing of the musicians and concert promotion at Italian and foreign jazz festivals.

EjsCool creates 6 completely new musical ensembles, selecting 15 participants from all Italian conservatories and 15 participants selected from European Partner Institutes. Once formed, the ensembles meet in Rome, at the Saint Louis and Casa del Jazz venues, for a 30-hour Artistic Residency for each ensemble, organized in a full immersion week, in which the resident artists offer workshops and tutoring by playing in the ensembles themselves, with a specific focus on creative writing, arrangement of original pieces and related performance.

At the end of the Residency, the ensembles perform in 1 concert hosted by La Casa del Jazz in Rome. On the morning of the day of the concert, the ensembles will offer 1 open rehearsal to students from Rome and Lazio music high schools partnered with Saint Louis. Online activities (song selection and preparation, brainstorming, workshops, etc.) are also planned before in-person activities begin.

The best songs identified from the unreleased songs produced during the residency will be recorded during the live concerts and then published and produced under the Jazz Collection label, as well as promoted by the Saint Louis Arts Agency.

Next, the ensembles are booked for concerts in the countries of the project partner institutions in November and December 2022.
