European songwriting exchange

Saint Louis opens the call for applications for the 3rd “European Songwriting Exchange,” an international songwriting exchange featuring Saint Louis College of Music and prestigious partners Erasmus+Codarts (Netherlands) and Leeds College of Music (UK).

This third edition of the Songwriting Exchange, a traveling format, will be hosted by Codarts in Rotterdam: 3 students and a songwriting teacher from each institute will participate in the project, and from Thursday, April 2 to Saturday, April 4, 2020, they will work together on the processes of writing and creating an original song.

Focus of the Songwriting Exchange: collaboration among musicians, learning “best practices” from other Institutes, and multi-handed songwriting.

Participants will work in groups of three that will change systematically, alternating between free writing and quick writing and performance.

The purpose of the European Songwriting Exchange is to turn attention not so much to the making of the finished product as to the creative, writing and ideation process.

The selections are reserved for Saint Louis students in the Three-Year and Two-Year Academic programs keeping in mind that the focus of the project is original writing: song-writing singers, song-writing instrumentalists, song-writing producers, electronic musicians and more generally those who work on composing original songs.

The committee that will select the candidates will consist of Director Stefano Mastruzzi and faculty members Gianluca Podio, Lello Panico and Roberto Giglio.

Travel and lodging expenses will be borne by St. Louis.
