Music Meets Film Arts, a creative meeting between RUFA and Saint Louis.
The project, “Music Meets Film Arts,” is a collaboration between RUFA, Rome University of Fine Arts students from the “Cinematography 2” course and students from the Jazz and Pop academic courses of Saint Louis College of Music. Guided by a shared passion for visual and musical art, students from the two AFAM Institutes worked closely together to create three engaging and innovative music video clips.
The project, designed as a monographic part of Prof. Francesco Pennica’s Cinematography 2 course for second-year Film Arts students (Languages and Techniques of the Music Video Clip from the 1980s to the Present), allowed students to explore the languages and techniques of the music video clip, a hybrid and transversal genre that was born in the early 1980s with MTV and whose golden age ended with the advent of the Internet, but which still represents a fertile ground in which to explore the encounter between the arts of music and cinema.
The purpose of the project, which involves students from both institutions through the production of three music video clips, is to stimulate the creative exchange of young film makers and musicians, enhancing teamwork within curricular activities and in an interdisciplinary spirit.
RUFA students analyzed music tracks submitted by Saint Louis College of Music students from three distinct genres: Jazz, Electro-Pop and Rock. Divided into three groups, each working on a piece, they went through the different stages of the project together with enthusiasm and dedication.
