Raffaello Basiglio, freshly graduated from Saint Louis’ two-year Composition and Applied Music program, among the stars of the film “Andata e ritorno,” on Prime Video, for which he also composed the original music.
Andata e Ritorno recounts a journey made up of moving, waiting and meeting among the railroad tracks that cross Italy from North to South, in which physical movement also becomes an inner journey. Among trains, stations and places of passage, characters tell stories about going, returning and new departures, letting the places themselves-and their sounds-drive the narrative.
Among the protagonists of the project is. Raffaello Basiglio, a student of the Master of Arts of Composition and Applied Music of Saint Louis, who also supervised the film’s soundtrack.
The music Basiglio conceived for the film comes from a very concrete idea: starting from the real sounds of trains and the station-noises, announcements, movements, waiting-and turning them into musical matter. Samples that become rhythm and melody. Sound does not simply accompany the images, but runs through them, following the characters’ journey and giving voice to the places where the story takes shape.
Raffaello Basiglio’s work is a clear example of how the study of applied music can translate into a professional project, built step by step, bringing together experimentation and narrative focus.
There is also a curiosity that makes this project even more significant: on the same day as the filming at Saint Louis College of Music, Raphael discussed his Master of Arts thesis, graduating with a 110 with honors. A symbolic moment when study and work intersected in the same place and on the same day.
Andata e Ritorno (Coming and Going) thus tells not only a story on the screen, but also the transition from education to profession, showing how listening to the real-even the most everyday sounds-can become music.
The film “Andata e Ritorno” is available starting January 12, 2026, for streaming on IMDB e Prime Video.
