Saint Louis is participating in RomaModulare 2026, an international expo dedicated to modular synthesizers and electronic music. Workshop led by Luca Spagnoletti and a DJ set performed by the students.
Saint Louis returns to Rome for Modulare, the event dedicated to modular synthesizers, electronic music, and professional audio production. The 2026 edition will take place on September 18 and 19 at L’Opificio Italiacamp, in the Ostiense-Marconi neighborhood, in a 900-square-meter exhibition space hosting some of the leading international brands in synthesis and professional audio.
Saint Louis will be at the event with an exceptional selection of original vintage synthesizers from the 1970s: the Minimoog Model D, the ARP 2600, and the Oberheim Four Voice, iconic instruments that have shaped the history of electronic music and forever transformed the way we conceive and create sound. In addition,, participants will have the opportunity to attend a workshop focused on the new generation of hardware synthesizers and the creative possibilities offered by modern synthesis and sampling engines, led by Luca Spagnoletti, the professor in charge of the first- and second-level academic courses in electronic music, as well as several live electronics sessions led by Saint Louis students.
Discovering Legendary Synths
The Saint Louis booth will be a vibrant space dedicated to discovery, listening, and experimentation. Visitors to the fair will have the opportunity to get up close to legendary synthesizers— the Minimoog Model D, ARP 2600, and Oberheim Four Voice—learn about their features, and try them out firsthand under the guidance of students from the Department of Electronic Music.
The participants in the activities will be Davide Cutillo, Gabriele Iannucci, Giacomo Boscaino, Iolanda Isabella, and Thomas De Giglio, who will take turns leading demonstrations and performances, guiding the audience as they explore the timbral and creative possibilities of the instruments on display.
Luca Spagnoletti’s Workshop
On Friday, September 18, at 9:00 p.m., Saint Louis instructor Luca Spagnoletti will lead a workshop titled “Low-cost, multi-synthesis digital synthesizers,” dedicated to low-cost multi-synthesis digital synthesizers. This session compares four instruments—the Arturia MicroFreak, the Polyend Synth, the Sonicware LIVEN Ambient Ø, and the 4ms MetaModule Eurorack module—through an overview of their respective features and hands-on demonstrations, with the goal of exploring different approaches to sound generation and manipulation.
Spagnoletti, a musician, educator, and sound researcher, will offer an overview of the current landscape of multi-synthesis digital synthesizers, demonstrating how these relatively affordable instruments can serve as versatile solutions for music production, experimentation, and live performance.
Throughout the event, Saint Louis college counselors will also be on hand to provide information about academic programs in Electronic Music and Music Production, as well as on the institute’s academic programs and the educational and career opportunities it offers.
