As every year, the prestigious “More Than Jazz” festival that takes place every summer in Udine, in various picturesque landmarks of the city, has selected a number of Saint Louis students, young talents from the Three-year and Two-year Pop and Jazz Departments, to play during the concerts of the festival, on stage together with great established artists.
For this 2024 edition, which will be dedicated to women in jazz, Ruben Mammano – Biennium Pop Drumming – will participate in the ensemble led by singer-songwriter Chiara Luppi (July 18) and Andrea Cardone – Triennium saxophone – will accompany pianist Rita Marcotulli on stage (Aug. 1).
Chiara Luppi will perform in concert on July 18 at the Giardino del Torso in Udine and will lead an ensemble of five students selected for the occasion from prestigious international music universities: in addition to our student Ruben Mammano, Jean-Baptiste Rousseaux from KUG – Conservatory of Graz, Lucien Palak and Yann Lennart Schandl from HKB – University of the Arts in Bern, and Samuele Gandin from the Giuseppe Tartini Conservatory of Trieste.
Pianist and composer Rita Marcotulli will perform on August 1, also at the Giardino del Torso, and will lead an ensemble consisting of our student Andrea Cardone on saxophone, Yulija Kurpryianava from KUG – Conservatory of Graz, Damien Kuntz from HKB – University of the Arts in Bern, Francesco Assini from the Francesco Venezze Conservatory in Rovigo and Giacomo Ieraci from the Giuseppe Tartini Conservatory in Trieste.
Previous editions of the festival have featured for Saint Louis Vincenzo Quirico on double bass for the ensemble led by Enrico Pieranunzi (2021), Great Mudiare on bass with Gegè Telesforo (2022) and Giuseppe Sacchi on piano with Javier Girotto (2023).
