Two Saint Louis students in Rita Marcotulli’s new sextet
From Saint Louis to the big stages: Andrea Cardone and Daniele Bucci have been chosen by Rita Marcotulli for her new jazz sextet “Under 29 But Me.”
After participating in “More Than Jazz”-an event with which Saint Louis has collaborated for the past four years by sending its best students from the Jazz Department for artistic residencies with nationally renowned musicians-Andrea Cardone, a student close to graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sax, who studies with Rosario Giuliani at Saint Louis, was chosen by renowned jazz pianist Rita Marcotulli to join her new quintet Under 29 But Me.
Also with him will be Daniele Bucci, a student of the Saint Louis Biennium Jazz Level II in drums, where he studied with Fabrizio Sferra.
Further confirmation of Saint Louis’ commitment to creating direct connections between its students and the world of work, offering real opportunities to become part of prestigious projects and establish themselves on the national music scene.
Rita Marcotulli’s new project stems from her multi-stylistic vision and great attention to the contemporary scene: a new ensemble with the playful title “Under 29 But Me,” for which she wanted to call the brightest talents of the new generation of Italian jazz musicians to her side.
“Under 29 But Me was born out of a desire to put emphasis on the work of young and for me very good musicians, with whom I can compare myself and embark on a new artistic journey,” says Rita “The colors of the songs written for this project are certainly varied, full of emotions with a broad musical vision that starts from jazz and improvisation, ranging between styles.”
Along with Rita Marcotulli and our students Andrea Cardone and Daniele Bucci, the sextet also includes Elettra Minieri (composition and keyboards), Ava Alami (vocals), Damiano De Matteis (bass).
This important recognition once again confirms the value of the artistic training offered by Saint Louis and the ability of its students to distinguish themselves in the world of jazz.
