Jay Clayton

She was the Director of the Vocal Department at Cornish College of the Arts for 20 years and currently works in New York City as a faculty member of the Jazz Department at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore.

Jay Clayton is an internationally renowned vocalist, composer and educator whose work ranges from jazz to experimental music.

With more than 40 recordings under his belt, Clayton has collaborated with major artists such as Muhal Richard Abrams, Steve Reich, Kirk Nurock, Julian Priester, Jerry Granelli, Jane Ira Bloom, Gary Bartz, Jack Wilkins, George Cables, Fred Hersch, Gary Thomas, tap dancer Brenda Bufalino, and singers such as Jeanne Lee, Norma Winstone, Urszula Dudziak, and Bobby McFerrin.

He has taught and given seminars all over the world. His book “Sing Your Story: A Practical Guide for Learning and Teaching the Art of Jazz Singing,” was published by Advance Music in 2001.
