Karima was born in Livorno, a colorful and sparkling maritime city from which she inherits the permeability to contamination. From an early age, buoyed by her talent, she took up music, participating first in Bravo Bravissimo and then in Domenica In. In October 2006, she entered Maria De Filippi’s Amici program. She placed third and won the critics’ prize, decreed unanimously by the entire technical jury, which considered her the most interesting new voice on the Italian music scene.
In the same year Karima signed her first record contract with Sony Bmg and recorded her first EP. In her powerful and meaningful voice the colors of jazz, soul blues and even gospel coexist and express themselves. Despite her young age, Karima already has a long and varied artistic experience, including the Sanremo Festival in 2009 and especially a collaboration with Burt Bacharach by whom she was produced.
She is the only Italian singer to whom the “Maestro” has written songs and with whom she recorded her first album entitled Karima in Los Angeles. Also in the same year, she was chosen by Disney to play the soundtrack in the animated film The Princess and the Frog, opened the concerts of Whitney Houston and John Legend, and participated in Tale e Quale Show and I migliori Anni on Rai 1.
With Umbria Jazz, she represents Italy in international festivals. A much-loved artist in China, where she took the“Close to You” project on tour for two consecutive years, singing first at the prestigious Beijing Opera House, a sacred temple of classical music. In 2017 in the musical The Bodyguard she is Rachel the lead, a role played in the film by Whitney Houston.
Beloved by musicians, she has collaborated with Dado Moroni, Riccardo FIoravanti and Stefano Bagnoli. Explosive collaboration with Italy’s most famous street band Funk Off. In her concerts, the songs she performs are reborn in the unique and inimitable “Karima version.”
Her latest album “No Filter” (Jando Music) was released in 2021, featuring her alongside great musicians Gabriele Evangelista on double bass, Bernardo Guerra on drums and Piero Frassi. An explosive album made up of contaminations of musical genres such as pop and jazz.
