Maria Pia De Vito

Maria Pia De Vito singer and composer, began her concert activity in 1976 as a singer and multi-instrumentalist in research groups on ethnic and cultured music of the Mediterranean, Balkan and South American areas. He combines an interest in ethnic and traditional Mediterranean music with jazz experimentation.

In the late 1990s he collaborated with Rita Marcotulli on the “Nauplia” project, a fusion of Neapolitan melody and jazz.

He has collaborated with a variety of musicians, including John Taylor, Ernst Rejiseger, Paolo Fresu, Norma Winstone, Steve Swallow, Gianluigi Trovesi, Enrico Pieranunzi, Enrico Rava, Giorgio Gaslini, and Ivan Lins.

Named by the American magazine Down beat among the ten Artists of the Year in 2001, in the category “Beyond Artist” , along with such names as Joni Mitchell and Caetano Veloso, She won in 2008 , 2009, 2011 the Top Jazz , Critics’ Referendum held by Musica Jazz magazine, from 2010 to 2016 she won the popular referendum of JAZZIT magazine, as well as the 2012 Musica e Dischi award for the best international production with her record Mind the Gap.

Maria Pia De Vito mel 2016 received the Lifetime Achievement Award , from the Musica Oggi association. She has been a professor of Jazz Singing at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia and at Saint Louis College of Music.
