Antonio Sánchez

Antonio Sánchez’s rapid rise in the world of jazz drumming began during his days at the Conservatory, when Paquito D’Rivera contacted his teacher, Danilo Pérez, to recommend a drummer for Dizzy Gillespie‘s United Nation Orchestra.

Pérez signaled Sánchez, who thus joined the band on tour.
Later, in 1997, Pérez invited him to join his trio, which received a Grammy nomination for the album “Motherland.”

Antonio Sánchez’s participation in the tour also reached the ears of legendary guitarist Pat Metheny, who invited him to play in the Pat Metheny Group after a series of auditions.

These important encounters marked the beginning of an extraordinary career for Sánchez in the world of jazz music.
