Bootcamp on vocal painting with Jim Daus Hjernøe, visiting professor from RAMA VOCAL CENTER, Oct. 10-12 at Saint Louis, as part of the Erasmus+ program.
TIC, or The Intelligent Choir, is a musical philosophy developed by Jim Daus Hjernøe, Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, in which choral conductors and choristers share responsibility for the artistic process. Applicable to any choir, regardless of genre or skill level.
The ICT methodology is divided into three pedagogical areas:
- Musical skill development: This part focuses on various aspects such as pitch and pitch, rhythm and groove, sound and blend, interpretation and expression, and overall performance. The goal is to improve the choir’s musical abilities in these areas.
- Implementation of Vocal Painting (VOPA): VOPA is a technique within ICT that uses specific gestures to create visual signals for the choir. These signals help guide the choir in performance and facilitate a deeper understanding and connection with the music.
- Liberation of voice, body and soul: This aspect of TIC aims to liberate the voice, body and soul of choristers, enabling them to fully express themselves through music. It promotes individuality and emotional involvement, encouraging more authentic and incisive performance.
In general, TIC offers a comprehensive approach to choral music, focusing on skill development, innovative techniques such as Vocal Painting, and the personal and artistic growth of choir members. Jim Daus Hjernøe, as Professor, played a significant role in developing and promoting this philosophy.
