Pippo Matino

Matino on electric bass plays jazz, funky, blues, rock, and Italian pop music; in the past 20 years, he has made both as a soloist and co-leader, 7 Projects.

In 1993 he produced his first CD with Via Veneto Jazz called “Low Voltage,” which was also his first for the Roman label.

He has participated in several electric bass events both in Italy and Europe from Eurobassday in Verona to Guitar Show in London, Musikmesse Frankfurt, Disma Rimini, Polland Bass Day, Bass Player Live in New York and Los Angeles, NAMM Show in L.A, Sound Expo in Verona, Bologna Music Show, Meet in Milan, Sol Music in Palermo, Sgh in Milan.

At Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2006 he gave a “masterclass.” He teaches electric bass at the Nicola Sala Conservatory of Benevento and in several Italian educational facilities.

With guitarist Rocco Zifarelli and Cuban drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez he forms an Italian-Cuban trio.

He played with the Essential Team, another band, where drummers Pietro Iodice, Sergio Di Natale, Claudio Romano and saxophonists Rosario Giuliani, Javier Girotto or Giulio Martino, Roberto Schiano (Skianovic) on trombone took turns.

He has collaborated in several jazz-rock and fusion projects in Italy : with Flavio Boltro – Road Runner, with Agostino Marangolo – Day by Day, with Ernesto Vitolo – Piano E Beat and Vintage Hands, with Francesco Bruno – El Lugar and Quarzarat, with Andrea Marchesini – Diffusioni, with Rocco Zifarelli – Lyndon , with Sergio di Natale – August, with Lello Panico – Fronne. He has also collaborated with several artists including Billy Cobham, Mike Stern, Stefano di Battista, Flavio Boltro, Horacio “EL Negro” Hernandez, Agostino Marangolo, Javier Girotto, Ronnie Cuber, Giovanni Imparato, Robin Eubanks, Paco Sery, Bireli Lagrene, and Lele Melotti.

Since 2010 , with Rita Marcotulli, he has been part of the group “Us and Theme” a project dedicated to the music of Pink Floyd.
