Rosario Bonaccorso

Rosario Bonaccorso was born in the seaside town on the slopes of Mount Etna Volcano.
In 1960, the Bonaccorso family moved to Imperia, Liguria, where Rosario, at the age of sixteen, began playing the electric bass and taking his first steps in the musical environment.

It was at this stage that he developed a desire to play double bass and began to take an interest in jazz music, with which he fell deeply in love.
The moment is intense and fertile, seducing him with the styles of those who have charted the evolution of contemporary double bass language-Charles Mingus, Oscar Pettiford, Paul Chambers, Ray Brown, Ron Carter, Charlie Haden.

Subsequent musical maturity led him to develop his own style, in the wake of the tradition of the great bassists of Afro-American music, Rosario Bonaccorso creates a new, personal, pervasive artistic modus that stems not only from revisiting the classics but also from reinterpreting them through an intellectual and passionate verve at the same time.

Confirming this are nearly forty years of career and collaborations, recordings and concerts on stages all over the world alongside hundreds of artists, American and European, of the caliber of Elvin Jones, Benny Golson, Billy Cobham, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, and Stefano Bollani, Joe Lovano, Mark Turner, Gato Barbieri, James Moody, Lee Konitz, Steve Wilson, Ivan Lins, Dianne Reeves, Adrienne West, Clark Terry, Jon Faddis, Charles Tolliver, Franco Ambrosetti, Kenny Davern, Bob Wilber, Tony Scott, Slide Hampton, Kenny Barron, Jacky Terrason, Cedar Walton, George Cable,Philippe Catherine, Ralph Sutton, Jimmy Cobb, Albert “Tootie” Heath, Vernel Fournier, Naco, Aldo Romano, Dedè Ceccarelli, Tommy Campbell, Sangoma Everett, Tullio de Piscopo, Luis Nash, Herlin Riley, Adam Nussbaum, Antonio Sanchez and many other artists…

His collaborations with Italian artists are countless; we mention only a few of the most enduring: from 1997 to 2007 he worked steadily in Stefano di Battista’s Quartet playing in more than five hundred concerts in Europe and touching prestigious destinations in the world such as Paris, New York, Tokyo, Montreal, Buenos Aires; for ten years he played in Enrico Rava’s groups, as well as in the project Un Incontro in Jazz with Gino Paoli, Rava, Boltro, Rea, Gatto; and again in the groups of Eric Legnini, Fabrizio Bosso, Roberto Gatto, Dado Moroni, Francesco Cafiso ..
