Ellade Bandini

At 16 he tried to assimilate the main “tricks of the trade” by watching drummer Giorgio Zanella, while his real career began the following year, at 17, playing professionally with a number of orchestras in dance halls and night clubs all over Italy: it was in one of these orchestras, that of maestro Ugo Orsatti, that Bandini first played with bassist Ares Tavolazzi.

His career as a drummer continued by playing for singer Carmen Villani, in the beat group Avengers (in which Ares Tavolazzi was again on bass). A

s changes in Villani’s group brought him together with young pianist and arranger Vince Tempera. Inserted, thanks to Tempera himself in the recording environment, he soon became a much sought-after session player, playing on some successful 45s of those years, such as Io mi fermo qui by Donatello, Viaggio di un poeta and Vendo casa by Dik Dik, Soleado by Daniel Sentacruz Ensemble, Rumore by Raffaella Carrà, L’importante è finire and Ancora ancora by Mina.

In 1978 Tempera would also call on him to play drums on the singles and album from the theme songs of the first mecha series to appear in Italy, Atlas Ufo Robot (Goldrake), in which Tavolazzi would appear as bassist and co-writer of Shooting Star, and thus ideally their trio would be recomposed.

Munich, January 2014 Bandini, in his long career, has also collaborated with many other Italian musicians and artists of international importance: and he also participates in numerous Jazz festivals with equally important artists.

In 1997 and 1998 he was part of the musical group that accompanied Fabrizio De André in the concert “de andré in Concerto,” Faber’s last live show that took place in Rome on February 13 and 14, 1998 at the Brancaccio Theater.

Since 1999 he has been a member of “Drummeria,” formed in addition to Bandini by four other drummers-Walter Calloni, Maxx Furian, Christian Meyer, and Paolo Pellegatti.

From 2006 to 2012 he was a teacher at the “Triennium Jazz” held at the “G. Frescobaldi” Conservatory of Ferrara from where he will resign and then devote himself to more informal but, according to him, more suitable “Master classes”.
